The Snowball Rally, February 8th-9th 2003.
A little background information.
-The Warren clan threw a big bash on the weekend of Feb. 8th, so Sophie and I decided to head down and have a look see. Lots of fun in the snow was promised, and lots of fun in the snow is exactly what was delivered.
-Sophie and I got up extra early Saturday morning (2:30am) in order to drive down to the US border and miss the backlog. Fortunately that's exactly what happenned, we flew threw customs and barely lost a beat. When we arrived we had been on the road for 7 hours, but the trip was woth it, just to drive in and see a small pack of Nivas and some misc other vehicles.
-We were introduced to "Rugrat", and were informed that everyone was getting ready to go out onto the property for a quick frolic before lunch. We threw our gear into the house and got out there to join the pack... As soon as we got onto the feild, we had to take a try at getting Bill unstuck, he was already belly up in a couple feet of the white stuff. Unfortunately My lil' Niva didn't have enough grip to get him out on a straight pull, but along came Gavin in his Fiva and gave him a quick tug, and plop he was out.
-And the three of us headed down onto the ice pond (which I was told was 14" thick) and eventually met up with the rest of the group. I was playing it real safe, and I had yet to get stuck, but I was swiftly informed that I would be before the day was out. hehe
-We watched as the Jeeps tugged the other Jeeps out of the snow, and the Unimog pulled and pulled to get a Jeep out. These guys were very well set up, with lifted suspensions and big fat tires. Us Niva boys were playing it safe since we didn't have the clearance or the big tires of the big boys, and just before the lunch call, Bill's Niva decided to short itself out. He was pulled back to service (Gavin's Garage) and he and Rugrat worked hard to get everything working again for the afternoon's activities.

2.Thousand Islands bridge at sunrise.
3.This is a stretch Cadillac Escalade that passed us on I-81.
-While everyone farted around in the snow, I was enjoying myself out on the pond's ice. Slipping and sliding around, all good fun. It was like watching a WRC round, in ultra-slow motion.

-After lunch, the crew lined up their vehicles for a group photo. Missing from the picture is Rugrat's and Bill's Nivas, they were still busy bypassing the shorted out wires.
Pictures:
1.A good sized crew nonetheless.
2.Land Rovers, Jeeps, Nivas, and the King, the Unimog. You can see why us Niva boys were a bit on the timid side for some of the obstacles (or at least, I was).
Pictures:
1.Sophie and I and a very salty Niva. Love winter highways....
